On Wednesday, Nov. 11th, Georgia Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, announced his state will conduct a manual hand recount of all ballots cast in the presidential race. Due to growing pressure from Georgia Republicans over voting irregularities and mismanagement of the state’s elections, Raffensperger felt this was the right call.
In a press conference he said, “This will help build confidence. It will be an audit, a recount and a recanvass all at once; It will be a heavy lift.” He also went onto say the recount will undergo a a full audit, which is why it requires a by-hand report for each of Georgia’s 159 counties.
Aside from his decision to recount every vote by hand, Raffensperger, has been under a consistent line of fire from fellow GOP officials in Georgia. On Monday, without citing examples for their claims, Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, called on Raffensperger to resign because of “mismanagement and lack of transparency.”
Dismissing their claims, Raffensperger ignored their calls to step down and suggested the two GOP senators should focus on retaining control of the Senate, saying, “the voters of Georgia hired me, and the voters will be the one to fire me.”
